This year has been a great year for Mzansi content creators, with another African original Netflix series on the way.

The comedy series will tell a story of a prodigal daughter who returns home and ruins her sister’s wedding plans.

Speaking to SunBuzz, executive producer of the show Rethabile Ramaphakela said: “We wanted to create something for December. This is because South Africa doesn’t have its own Christmas movie special.

“So we thought of a fun story about a wedding with a disastrous family.”

Rethabile said working on the series has been hectic.

“We shot during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa. We had to quarantine the whole cast and crew, do tests and self-isolate.

‘The tests were done because we wanted to have intimate scenes. We had to take a lot of considerations because of where we were as a country at the time.”

Even though it was hectic shooting the three-part series, Rethabile said the audiences will love it.

“They can expect to laugh and some nostalgia, as they will see characters they will relate to, such as the drunk uncle,” she said.

Rethabile said although the series has a star-studded cast such as Rami Chuene, Nandi Nyembe and Clemetine Mosimane, it also has fresh faces.
