T he Cabaret and Beyond Festival will be celebrating Mzansi’s talented composers.

The festival, known as the Cab Festival, will be held at Seabrooke’s Theatre in Durban, KZN from Friday, 15 October to Sunday, 24 October.

It will see four cast members, Amanda Kunene, Lyle Buxton, Sam Landers and Tshepo Kcokoane, performing 20 new songs from 21 local theatre composers.

One of the stars of the show, Amanda, spoke to SunBuzz on what audiences can expect from the musical theatre show.

“Cabaret and Beyond will see four artists who have been selected to perform musical theatre pieces of South African composers. The beautiful part of it is that we are showcasing South African work,” said Amanda.

“South African artists were asked to send in their own compositions and we will be showcasing those that have been selected,” she said.

She said people who watch the show will enjoy the performances.

“Judging from the exciting rehearsals that we have, we are talented, fun, and there are a lot of touching scenarios that people will relate to. The show will be surprising. It will take people to a place of high emotions. Every piece performed is enticing and jaw-dropping because all the performers are talented and the audience will be overwhelmed.”

Amanda has travelled the world, singing and performing and has also been on one of broadway’s biggest shows, The Lion King, as Nala.

“I’ve been performing from the age of 16. I’ve been doing shows and vocal competitions.

“My love of performing started at a very young age.

“And to be able to do it professionally and internationally is just a blessing,” she said.
