IDOLS SA has returned for its 17th season.

The first episode kicked off on Sunday, 11 July.

It started with contestants who auditioned online and were selected to sing for the judges.

The successful episode saw 20 golden tickets being given away.

Popular DJ Prince Kaybee graced the show as the guest judge for the day.

The usual judges Unathi Nkayi, Somizi Mhlongo and Randall Abrahams spoke about what people can expect from this season.

The first contestant, Linathi, opened the show with a bang and got the first golden ticket.

There was also 30-year-old Berry, who is a second time lucky contestant. She made it to the top 30 ten years ago. Berry said she wants to go far this year.
