THE South African Music Awards (SAMAs) are back, and entries are officially open.
According to organisers of the event, musicians and artists who are eligible for the SAMAs consideration can start submitting their body of work.
To qualify, the music must have been released between 1 February 2021 and 31 January 2022.
In a statement, Recording Industry of South Africa CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi told the People’s Paper that they were excited for the 28th instalment of the awards.
“It gives us great pleasure to see the SAMAs maintaining their longest run as an award ceremony of stature. We call on all creatives to submit their amazing work for the consideration of our panel of judges,” she said.

“The year 2021 has seen great milestones, the growth of amapiano and artists making strides on international stages. We look forward to SAMA28, that we hope will be a physical event after the challenges of SAMA26 and SAMA27, which were delivered amid a global pandemic.”
Sibisi added that they remained dedicated and committed to providing the best platform on which Mzansi music could shine and be recognised for its excellence.
In the past five years, the SAMAs have seen a marked and sustained increase in the number of entries, up from 400 in 2016 to over 1 000 in 2021.
For two years running, the awards, with the aim to honour and appreciate the best across the SA music landscape, were hosted virtually due to the pandemic.
But since the lockdown has been eased down, the organisers are hoping to host them in Sun City Resort in Rustenburg, North West.
Entries open from today until midnight, 31 January.
