The Sello Maake KaNcube Foundation has partnered with Tholeng Mohau Foundation to create awareness about breast cancer.
They will host a Breast Cancer Walkathon on Sunday, 3 October, at Mofolo Park, Soweto.
Founder of Tholeng Mohau Foundation Thabang Motsieloa, who’s a breast cancer survivor, said she was raising awareness so people could know what to do.
‘‘When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I felt anger, fear, shock and disbelief. I started asking myself and God why me, and why I should undergo this difficult journey,” she said.
“I was diagnosed in January 2018, and this was not the hardest thing to accept. But having to undergo an operation, I knew then that I was about to go through hell.”
She said that her journey was painful, but she beat cancer through love and support from her family and friends.

“I started vomiting, my body was aching and my worst nightmare of chemo had started. After my hair was gone, the scars were there to remind me every day that I have breast cancer. My complexion starting changing and just when I thought I was done, I had to face radiation. What a painful, body-burning traumatic experience.”
She said the love and support she received was amazing.
“That’s when I realised that this was a journey of hope, which made me conquer breast cancer.”
She said the goal of the walkathon was to raise awareness and decrease the stigma of cancer.
“We will teach people that more knowledge will lead to advance detection. We’ll support survivors and those who are fighting it, particularly in townships where people assume cancer is a Caucasian disease,” said Thabang.
