Mlungisi Mathe’s new single is making waves in Mzansi.

Actor-turned-musician Mlungisi Mathe (30) has released a new single titled Nelly and it is already making waves across Mzansi.

This is a new high for the media personality who plays Emkay on popular SABC1 soapie, Skeem Saam.

Mlungisi told SunBuzz the song was close to his heart.

“It came out of nowhere.

“I guess I was in love with someone, and I just wanted to express it but Nelly is just a random name that came to mind,” he said.

On the song, Mlungisi has featured Aubrey Qwana but he said initially he had Kwesta in mind.

“I sent files to Kwesta’s producer.

“He loved it and Senzo also loved the track and reverted by saying that he would love to add the verse but ended up not being able to due to some personal reasons. That is how Aubrey ended up being in the song.

“Honestly, I don’t regret anything as it seems like it was meant to be and I really enjoyed my studio session with him, everything was organic,” he said.

It has been years since Mlungisi took the decision to follow his passion in music, and he told SunBuzz his journey in the music scene has been very unpredictable.

“When I thought everything was going well, things took a very sharp curve and moved very slowly.

“Besides having to juggle between acting and music, the music scene is very different, and it has its own aura. I think I’d be very far though If I had a recording deal back then when I started,” he said.

Mlungisi also revealed that he was working on an EP that he would release soon.
