MZANSI celebs have been hit hard by the news of Ticketpro Dome closing down.
The iconic venue in North Riding, Joburg, will be closing its doors on 7 September due to the banning of public gatherings since the start of lockdown last year.
The venue has hosted local and international stars including Dr Tumi, Cassper Nyovest, John Legend, Sam Smith, J.Cole, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Jay Z, Kanye West and Drake.
The news that was announced on Monday, 19 July, left musicians and the rest of Mzansi devastated
“It is with a heavy heart that RX Venue Management today announces that after 20 years of being the management company of South Africa’s largest multi-purpose indoor arena, The Ticketpro Dome has now been sold by the owners, Sasol Pension Fund, to a third party which does not operate in the event space,” they wrote.
Cassper Nyovest, who hosted his first ever fill-up concert at the venue, bid it goodbye on social media.

He said it was a sad day for him because the industry had lost a lot because of the pandemic.
“Today I was wearing the merchandise we launched at The Dome. Didnt know it would be the day they announced such sad news that it would be closed down. Such a sad, sad day. I’m not okay, man. Our industry has lost so much in this pandemic. There will never be another one. Gone,” he wrote.
DJ PH said he has many memories from The Dome.
“Had many career highlights here. Started on the truck outside, warming up before doors opened. Presented an award at the @dstv awards, MC’d & was headline DJ for multiple @castlelitesa unlocks and witnessed @casspernyovest making history filling up the dome. damn u Covid,” wrote PH.
Gagasi FM’s DJ Warras listed the musicians he has watched at the venue
“Saw: Cassper Nyovest, Kanye, Drake, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, J. Cole, Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper, Meek Mill, Post Malone & Jay Z in that Dome. The end of an era indeed,” he wrote.
Other celebs like K.O, DJ Zan-D, Candice Modiselle also shared how sad they were about the closing.
