COMEDIAN and actress Lebohang Mpyana is excited to be nominated for Best Newcomer Award in the Royalty Soapie Awards.
She plays the role of Khelina on the popular soapie, DiepCity.
Speaking about her character, she said: “When I get the script, I’d usually research my character and try to get into it. But in this case, I found it easy to get into Khelina’s role.”
She attributed this to the fact that she had a Khelina at home.
“My aunt is exactly like Khelina. She’s very loud and into other people’s businesses, bubbly so. When I got this role, I just imagined how she’d react to a particular situation.”

But she said she was nothing like Khelina, except for the hustle.
“Khelina has a life of her own. She’s loud and likes minding other people’s business. I’m nothing like her.
“I am generally a people’s person, but I don’t interfere in their business.
“I’m a bit reserved, but I also work hard, just like Khelina,” she said.
Lebohang said she’s been in the industry for 19 years, but DiepCity was her big break.
“I spend a lot of time doing theatre because it sharpens my acting skills, and I’m grateful for that experience,” she said.
Lebohang has been getting a lot of support from her home province of Limpopo, including MEC Thandi Moroka.
“I’ve seen big posters rooting for me. I’ve also seen people across the country supporting my craft. This is humbling, and means my hard work is being recognised,” she said.
She said about her nomination: “Being nominated already feels like an achievement. So if I win, that will be the cherry on top for me. And if I don’t, I will not be discouraged because there can only be one winner.”
