“I KNOW the pain of being called names, of mistreatment.”

These were the words of award-wining gospel artist and TV host Dr Winnie Mashaba, who’s announced she is pregnant with her first child after trying for many years.

Last year, it was reported the 40-year-old had divorced her husband Makgokgo Makgopa after 16 years of marriage.

The couple didn’t have any kids.

Sharing her happy news on her social media accounts on Saturday, 18 December, Winnie said: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

“My humble thanks to everyone for messages of support as I keep all women in my prayers who are struggling to conceive.”

She was soon congratulated by industry friends such as Kelly Khumalo, Nomcebo Zikode and Candy Tsamandebele.

Lerato Montsa said she related to Winnie’s struggle and her good news gave her hope.

“Being 35 and not being able to carry a child is the most painful thing any woman can go through,” she said.

Gracious Lee wrote: “Having walked this journey myself, I know how painful it is.

“May God Almighty’s healing hand touch every womb so that it may bear healthy fruits. Your turn is coming, your testimonies are coming.”

In an interview with Daily Sun’s sister magazine Drum, Winnie revealed she longed to have her own children.

“After two miscarriages, I gave everything to God.

“Sometimes, I joke and say maybe God knows if He gives me children now, I’m going to neglect other responsibilities I have,” said the gospel star.
