WHEN Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha’s baby boy was born in June this year, their fans couldn’t wait to meet him or see his photos on social media.

But it seems like they’ll have to wait.

The controversial parents are not prepared to show their son’s face in public.

Babes Wodumo, whose real name is Bongekile Simelane, said the world is full of cruelty and they are not prepared to expose their son to such an environment.

“Social media users have a tendency to post nasty comments. They don’t consider the feelings of the person whom they are commenting about. That is the cruelty that us celebrities have to deal with almost every day. This cruelty doesn’t affect only us, but our families as well.

“So as caring parents we can’t expose our son to such cruelty,” said Babes Wodumo.

Babes and Mampintsha, whose real name Mandla is Maphumulo, created an Instagram account for their son.

The account has 26 600 followers so far.

Although they post his photos and videos on the account, they make sure that they don’t show his face.

The couple has also hidden their son’s name from the public. He’s only known as Sponge, which is the nickname that they gave him after Mampintsha’s mum Zama Gumede’s accusation against Babes, when she said she was faking her pregnancy by putting sponges on her stomach.

Babes said that the reason they created Sponge’s Instagram account, with the handle Sponge-Wodumo, is because they wanted to advertise the kids’ clothing label that they named Sponge.

“We’re aware that people want to see Sponge. Some want to know his real name but they must wait. That will all be revealed when the time is right. For now, while they are waiting they must focus on enjoying our music,” said Babes.
