COVID-19 has brought financial burdens to many people, and artists in Mzansi are faced with the same fate.
But it seems musicians in the North West are in luck as the first ever Platinum Music Awards will offer them financial relief.
Musicians and producers were asked to send in entries for the awards.
The categories included Best Dance Album, Best Traditional Album, Best Jazz Album, Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album, Best Rap Album, Best Radio Presenter, Best Kwaito Album, Best Producer, Best Collaboration and Song of the Year.
Founder Kgethang Konese said musicians, artists and producers from the province would finally receive the recognition they deserved.

“We aim to support our local artists in the North West. Most provinces such as KZN and Gauteng have their own awards,” said Kgethang.
“Our main purpose is to honour musicians in the province. The impact we will make will be felt by other awards.
“Additionally, Covid-19 came as a huge blow to our artists. As a result, we want to offer financial assistance because they only received relief funding once.”
He said the response from the music community was overwhelmingly positive.
Kgethang said the awards ceremony will be held on 27 February in Klerksdorp.
