INDEED when it rains, it pours.
Yet another sponsor has pulled the plug on MacG’s controversial podcast.
This after MacG, whose real name is MacGyver Mukwevho, and co-host Sol Phenduka made transphobic comments once again.
In the recent episode of Podcast and Chill with MacG, the two discussed an alleged cheating scandal that involved a popular actor, who apparently had an affair with a trans woman. Sol used the word “trannies” to refer to transgender people.
This comment was followed by a huge outcry on social media leading to Amstel, currently the main sponsor of the podcast, pulling the plug.
It released a statement distancing itself from the podcast.
“The Amstel brand, locally and globally, is centred around friendship and inclusion of all people, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation without discrimination. We distance ourselves from any transphobic and homophobic views. We have officially parted ways with Podcast and Chill with MacG, and will no longer be a partner as of 1 December,” read the statement.
This is not the first sponsor to pull out of the controversial podcast. A few months ago, insurance giant Old Mutual also distanced itself, withdrawing its sponsorship following homophobic and transphobic comments that caused an uproar on social media.
