Guitarist Billy Monama has come through for anyone who wants to learn how to play this instrument.
The jazz musician is hosting a five-day workshop starting from Tuesday, 8 June to Saturday, 12 June.
Speaking to SunBuzz, Billy said he’s hosting these classes because there’s high demand.
He used to host workshops at high schools, colleges and universities, and he’s now taking them to a bigger platform. They’ll be held at the Joburg Theatre.
“There was so much demand for these classes from people, especially students I used to host them for,” said Billy.
“They would ask me to come back because the hour-long workshops I did were not enough.
“So I decided to come back and teach everything for five days so everyone could learn everything they wanted. I’ll be presenting the content based on my upcoming book Introduction To South African Guitar Vol. 1, which is coming out in September.”

He said the free workshop will be hosted by various guitarists from the country.
“Themba Mokoena will be helping with mbaqanga and African jazz while Mbuzeni Mkhize helps with maskandi and Marhoya Chauke with Xitsonga,” he said.
“Special guest Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse will be helping by teaching people about the music business.”
Billy said all participants would showcase what they learnt on the final day.
“On Saturday, everyone who attended the workshop will be performing. They will be using the skills they will have acquired from the workshop.
“And this will be a free concert. People can come and watch, as long as they book.”
It’s the same for participants. Although the workshop is free, people will need to book because of Covid-19 restrictions.”
