JUST a month ahead of the season premiere of SABC1’s The Braai Show with Cassper Nyovest, drama is already brewing.

AKA’s management team has served the public broadcaster with a letter of demand, asking it to cease the airing of the show due to contractual problems.

According to the letter which Daily Sun has seen, the rapper who was the host of the first season said he entered into a joint copyright agreement with the production company that produces the show.

If this is true, it means he’s still entitled to the interest of the show. This is despite him not being able to fulfil his duties as the host for the second season due unforeseen circumstances.

But AKA said he’s been trying to engage with the relevant parties regarding his legal stake on the show but he’s allegedly been given the run around.

He said he was left no choice but to take the legal route to halt the airing of the show until his demands are met.

The demands, which according to the letter, include retaining a 50% entitlement as joint copyright owner as well as being credited as the executive producer.

“Our client has attempted to engage in discussions about his legal state in the show as per primary agreement, but he is constantly being referred to the SLA and Cession agreements to which he has fulfilled his obligations and is not party to, respectively,” part of the letter reads.

The SABC’s group executive for corporate affairs and marketing, Gugu Ntuli, told the People’s Paper they were aware of the letter of demand.

“The SABC can confirm receipt of the letter from AKA’s legal team, and we will deal with this matter accordingly,” she said.

Daily Sun also reached out to the production company, Cake Media, and they revealed they had instituted legal proceedings against AKA.

“We have instituted legal proceedings against Kiernan Forbes to desist from spreading distortions, falsehoods and causing harm to our brands and business. We are confident about our legal position and all will be revealed and settled through legal means,” the company said.

They said production is continuing as planned.

“We have an obligation to the entertainment loving public, the broadcaster and other stakeholders. All is ready for the show to go on air as planned. Any changes would be done together with the broadcaster as they have the final word.”
