Mzansi comedians are ready to make people laugh and forget about the pandemic for a while.
The Covid-19 Relief Festival will take place from Friday to Sunday, 1 to 3 October at the Radisson RED in Rosebank, Joburg.
Over 30 comedians will take turns to keep people entertained, including Jason Goliath, Sifiso Nene, David Kau, Celeste Ntuli, Ndumiso Lindi, Joey Rasdien, Mpho Popps, Nina Hastie, Robby Collins, Lindy Johnson, Tsitsi Chiumya, Alfred Adriaan, Siya Seya, Tats Nkonzo, Loyiso Madinga and Lihle Msimang.
David spoke to SunBuzz about what people can expect from his set on Saturday at 6pm. He said he would be telling stories about his life during lockdown.
“My material is always about my life at that point. It’s been so long since I’ve been on stage due to Covid-19, so that’s just one of the things I’ll be talking about.”
David said a lot of parents would relate to his jokes.
“I’ll be speaking about my life as it is – being at home every day with my kids.

“People who never thought they’d find themselves teaching their kids will really relate to my content. I’ll also look at where the country is at the moment.
“I have a three-year-old son who has never been to a cinema or creche. Kids haven’t been able to experience a lot. So, it will also be about how these kids are going to grow up in a way that’s different from others.”
He said it had been a tough time for comedians, but they kept on pushing.
“It’s ironic. We had so much content due to being stuck at home, but we could not perform it.
“Everyone says we should do it online, but you can’t do stand-up comedy online.
“It’s about standing in front of people and making them laugh, not standing in front of a laptop,” he said.
David said he was also gearing up for more shows lined up.
“I have shows in Cape Town on 15 and 16 October at Hotel Fire and Ice. Then I have the Blacks Only Comedy Show coming back in almost two years, at the end of October at Emperors Palace.”
He also shared a word of advice to people in the entertainment industry.
“I want to encourage artists to find something to do that’s got nothing to do with live performance. It must be able to bring in money. I advise that we get something on the side,” he said.
