Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up to face Mamelodi Sundowns in a highly anticipated DStv Premiership encounter on Thursday, with the Brazilians hoping to clinch their seventh consecutive league title on the day.

However, Chiefs will be without several key players due to injury or suspension.

Speaking to the media, interim coach Cavin Johnson discussed the players who will be unavailable for the upcoming clash and provided an update for each player that had question marks on their availability.

"Yes, there are some players who are out. You know Edmilson (Dove) is out through suspension. And Itu (Khune) is still not well. And also George Matlou, Keagan Dolly and Nkosiphile (Ngcobo). They are all still out due to injuries. So, we have to deal with what we have at the moment. There are all good players who can replace the ones who are not available on Thursday," Johnson said.

The former SuperSport United coach further mentioned that they are closely monitoring the progress of defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who has been sidelined with injury.

"Ditlhokwe is training. He has been training with the team for some time now but what we don't know is whether he is match fit because we haven't monitored him very well as we have been playing now and again.

"It was difficult to monitor him but he is fit from the injury that kept him out," Johnson concluded.

With the match against Sundowns looming, Chiefs are assessing their options and preparing to face the reigning champions without key personnel. The showdown between Amakhosi and Sundowns is set to take place at FNB Stadium, with Amakhosi hoping to make sure they qualify for the MTN8.
