FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta reportedly made a promise to Xavi Hernandez to persuade him to change his mind about leaving the club.

The club announced this week that Xavi has changed his mind and will remain in charge next season after conversation with the hierarchy.

Spanish publication Sport reports that there were discussions between Xavi and the club that were based on improving the communication between the managerial team and administration.

There had been reports of disagreements surrounding signing certain players in the last couple years or letting go of players.

The report adds that Xavi recieved a good response from Laporta and the board over reinforcing the squad next season in order to challenge on all fronts once again.

However, there is an understanding the plans hinges on the club offloading players to bring in funds next season.

Laporta revealed at the press conference on Thursday that the club will be working hard to make ensure the team can get new players.

“We are working to try to achieve the 1:1 rule to be able to incorporate players;” Laporta said, as per Football Espana.

“The other day La Liga congratulated us for the efforts we are making to reduce the wage bill. At this end of the season we are pushing for operations to get to the 1:1. That will decide what can be reinforced.”
