Former Al Ahly star Salah Mohsen has revealed why he did not depart Al Masry SC to join Pitso Mosimane in Saudi Arabia.

One of Pitso Mosimane's former players has revealed the South African coach asked him to join him in Saudi Arabia, and explained why he decided against doing so.

Egyptian star Salah Mohsen moved to Al Ahly from Ennpi in 2018, and played under the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach in 44 matches, accumulating eight goals and one assist.

A while after Mosimane departed the Red Devils, the player followed suit and joined Cleopatra FC on a loan deal, before sealing a permanent move to Al Masry SC in January this year.

Many believe, though, that the forward's best period at the Cairo club came under the South African tactician, but the player has now explained why he rejected the opportunity to reunite with the coach in Saudi Arabia.

"Mosimane asked me to come to Saudi Arabia, but some time ago my circumstances were not good and I turned off my phone, and when [Al Masry manager] Ali Maher asked me to stay, I could not refuse," he said, per Elfagr Sport.

Since joining Al Masry, Mohsen has scored one goal and provided one assist in nine appearances, helping the Green Eagles to second on the Egyptian Premier League table, four points behind leaders Pyramids, who have two games in hand on them.

The striker insisted his side are competing for the title, and also praised the manager he currently plays under.

"Ali Maher is one of the coaches who loves his work and does not clown around. He says that we are not employees," Mohsen continued.

"We want to achieve the league championship. Al Masry is playing to win the title, and this is our ambition, and my personal ambition is to regain my level, return to the national team, and win a championship with Al Masry."

Mosimane, meanwhile, joined Abha Club in January and was tasked with saving the Saudi Pro League from relegation.

With four games left to play, the Leaders of the South remain in the relegation zone, but can sniff safety separating them and Al Akhdoud, who are directly above them.
