Head coach Cavin Johnson has responded to questions when asked on the future of Kaizer Chiefs star Keagan Dolly, with the attacker’s current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Chiefs are set to take on Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Thursday afternoon with the aim to keep their top four ambitions alive.

Dolly is one of six players who will not be in contention to feature in the encounter. The 32-year-old has endured a campaign riddled with injuries that have limited him to just eight appearances this season – a far cry from the 31 appearances he made last season.

Further complicating matters is Dolly’s expiring contract with Amakhosi. While all the noise coming out of Naturena suggests that a one-year deal with a reduced salary is on the cards, his recent injury record is something to ponder for the Amakhosi hierarchy.

Speaking ahead of the match against Sundowns, Johnson struggled to provide clarity on Dolly’s situation.

"Well, that is a blunt question to ask me at this time of the [season], only because Keagan has been out [injured]," Johnson responded when asked if he would encourage Chiefs' management to keep Dolly next season.

"If I said this and that, it looks very much like I haven’t given much for Keagan to say, but I think we have to leave that for the end of the season."

Nevertheless, Dolly’s experience would remain vital for a relatively young and is expected to undergo another major refurbishment in both the technical team and the squad.

Chiefs’ match against Sundowns is scheduled to kick off at 19:30.
