THE taxman wanted R2.2 million from Somizi Mhlongo.
So something fancy had to be put on the block . . .
AND IT WAS SOMGAGA’S BEE-EMM SUPERCAR!
The covetable luxury automobile went up for sale, and should fetch a large part of what Tom Moyane’s men are demanding from Somizi.
Allegedly, the drama began back in 2015, when the South African Revenue Service (SARS) obtained a court judgement in the South Gauteng High Court against SomGAGA.
Last month, it was reported that SomGAGA’s SARS debt had swelled to a hefty R2.2 million in back taxes, penalties and interest.
And rumour has it that Somizi kissed his mighty supercar goodbye, with a tear in his eye.
Sources close to the A-lister said he’d been coming to work in a Mercedes-Benz SUV for the past two months.
One source told the People’s Paper: “We always wondered what happened to his costly Bee-Emm.
“He’s always using the Merc these days, even though he used to complain that it was always thirsty for fuel and he preferred the i8.”
Another source said: “He shouldn’t have gloated that he was shopping around for a R6-million house, nor told his followers that he’d bought a BMW i8 worth more than R2-million. That must have raised SARS' eyebrows.”
A third source said: “Now he’s taking selfies in his SUV. I’m sure he’s learnt his lesson not to boast too much to people who are in need.”
SARS spokesperson Sandile Memela said: “It’s a private matter. We don’t discuss such information with the media.”
Somizi was not available for comment.
His phone rang unanswered.
His manager Thato Matuka did not return the SunTeam’s calls.
