Brian “Tumza” Tsoute is a rider who finds peace and calm on his bike.
Known as Tumza, he comes from Meadowlands zone 6 in Soweto, and works at a company in Joburg, but mostly he is crazy about biking.
Speaking to SunWheels, Tumza said: “Biking is fun and you get to travel a lot, which I enjoy.
“Nobody inspired me to bike, it just happened automatically. Today, I am a very good biker,” he said.
Tumza said biking brings him a sense of freedom that is not possible in cars and other forms of transport.
Q: When did you start biking?
A: I started biking in 2014 and have a learner’s licence. I am planning to do my full licence early next year.
Q: Can you tell us about your first bike?
A: My first bike was a Salsa 150cc.
I now ride a Suzuki GSX. You can’t go bigger than this. According to other bikers, Suzuki is the best bike – and she has the largest cylinder capacity of any road-going petrol-powered vehicle.
Q: Is that why you bought her?
A: Yes, she is even bigger than she looks in the pictures and is very loud. She has got power and is also intimidating just to look at. This is the bike most bikers want to own. I love her!
Q: Do you have a pet name for your bike?
A: Yes. My bike’s name is Promise. I named her after my late wife. I loved her very much. She will always be in my heart.
Q: Where have you travelled?
A: I have ridden to the Free State, Limpopo and I will be going on many other long trips soon.
Q: Tell us about your outfit?
A: I have a helmet and boots of the highest safety standards that I use on both long and short trips.
The outfit is very important if you are interested in biking.
Q: What colour is your bike?
A: She is yellow.
Q: Have you customised her?
A: I did not customise her at all. She is standard except for one minor change. I put matching yellow mags on her wheels.
Q: Is there anything you would like to change on your bike?
A: I cannot think of anything right now as I feel it is complete. Maybe as time goes on I will think of adding something new to my love.
Q: Do you belong to a club?
A: Yes, I belong to Immortal Brotherhood Club which is in Orlando, Soweto. It’s a new club consisting of about 50 members. Every weekend I bike and sometimes I attend events like weddings, parties or if one of our club members has an event.
