Phakisi Mokoena is a biker from the Vaal south of Joburg.
Despite his numerous bike crashes, the man famously known as Phaks (Phoofolo) can’t imagine life without his green crowd pleaser (etala mmaka ditaba).
Phaks’ love for biking started in 2010 but reached new levels when he changed from a small bike to a super bike in recent months.
Talking to SunWheels, Phaks said he would never forget his first bike ride with a friend that got him hooked on biking.
Q: When did you start biking?
A: I started in 2010.
Q: How was your first day of biking?
A: My first ride was unexplainable. I loved the power of the bike itself and the adrenaline rush.
Q: Can you tell us about your first bike?
A: My first bike was a very small Suzuki Intruder 250cc.
Q: What type of bike do you currently own?
A: It’s a Kawasaki ZX10.
Q: Why did you buy it?
A: The other bike got smashed and was too expensive to fix so I bought a new one.
Q: What colour is your bike?
A: Green. I love its uniqueness.
Q: Have you got any traffic fines?
A: No fines.
Q: How often do you ride a week?
A: Fridays, because we do something called Bikers’ Friday.
Q: Do you have a licence for your bike?
A: Yes, you can’t ride without a license.
Q: Tell us about your outfit?
A: It’s an Ixon racing suit, specially imported in green, black and white, with Alpinestar boots, a helmet named Green Shack and Alpine gloves.
Q: Does your bike have a pet name?
Yes, etala mmaka ditaba. It means “the green crowd pleaser”.
Q: How far have you ridden your bike?
A: I’ve been to Bloemfontein and back as my longest drive so far.
Q: What do you love most about it?
A: I love its speed, and colour combination.
Q: Do you belong to a club?
A: Yes, it is Mahata mmoho MCC.
