A few weeks ago, Hyundai added a compact crossover, the Creta, to its popular SUV line-up.
We recently tested the Creta and couldn’t help but like it.
Despite its bland appearance, which is the only real drawback, it seems destined to become another Hyundai success story.
We tested the 1,6-litre turbodiesel model with automatic gearbox, which is also the range-topping model and probably the most likeable Creta.
- In typical Hyundai fashion, the Creta offers great value for money and you do get a lot of car for the R369 900 price tag.
- While the Creta is more compact than the Hyundai Tucson, its inside isn’t that much smaller than its bigger sibling and three adults can easily sit comfortable at the back, while boot space is really good.
- The Creta has a 19cm ride height, which is in fact more than that of the Tucson. It gives a great all-round view and boosts the driver’s confidence.
- It has a wide list of features such as leather seats, a multimedia system with satellite navigation and a Bluetooth connection, a rear-view camera, and parking sensors at the back. Though the dashboard design is bland, it has good build quality with easy-to-operate controls.
- The 1,6-litre turbodiesel engine is a gem offering more than enough oomph and great fuel consumption with an average of just 7,4 litres per 100 km. The ride is also really comfortable and the Creta feels quite solid.
We suspect iX35 drivers might trade their cars in for a Creta instead of a Tucson, because of its great overall package. The same goes for owners of the previous-generation VW Tiguan who are in need of a new SUV.
