Attention Mzansi, the all new Nissan Navara is here!
The 2016 International Pick-Up of the Year – with a tag-line “rugged redefined” – is set to do away with any discomfort driving a one tonner may bring, regardless of where you drive.
SunWheels was part of the two-day launch of the Navara outside the Mother City.
As if nature knew, the first day of the launch was rough and tough with strong rains and mist. We had to push the Navara up a mountain before hitting the rugged road and then on to the sand dunes.
Xavier Gobille, director for sales, marketing and aftersales at Nissan Group Africa, said the new Navara, launched seven years after the previous one, was worth the long wait.
“This vehicle is not only an improved workhorse but it introduces comfort features previously unheard of in bakkies.”
The Navara range will consist of three double-cab models, offering a range of features and a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox.
You’ll love the new design that centres on the next-generation V-motion grille.
The sharp shape of the bold chrome grille flows into the creased bonnet and ends at the tailgate, which features a stamped V design element.
The first hints of the Navara’s SUV features are seen in the full LED headlights with boomerang-style LED daytime running lights across the range.
The load bay on these double cab versions has been stretched to 1 061 litres.
Load carrying capacity has also been upgraded significantly. The new Navara can carry up to 1 002kg, depending on specification level, and thanks to its powerful new engine it can tow a braked trailer weighing up to 3 500kg.
While it looks good, it had not lost much of the old Navara appeal.
More changes are revealed underneath the bonnet.
Powering the new Navara is a brand new YS23DDT twin-turbo diesel engine.
All models also feature the new, customised coil-spring, five-link rear suspension fitted to its solid ladder-frame chassis. The set-up combines traditional pick-up load carrying capabilities with the benefits normally associated with an SUV with a similar suspension set-up.
