Ford South Africa announced on Friday that progress has been made with the safety recall of the 1,6-litre Ford Kuga.
More than 63% of the affected vehicles have already been repaired and returned to their owners, who can now enjoy driving with peace of mind.
But they also said that a number of the affected vehicles have not yet been brought in to Ford dealers for the urgent repair. Ford urged all customers who hadn’t yet taken their Kugas in to do so as it was an emergency.
Ford has been providing courtesy cars to all affected customers to minimise their inconvenience.
“Our dealers are working hard to replace the parts, testing and verifying that the cooling system is working properly, making sure that the latest software updates are applied and getting customers back into their vehicles,” said Jeff Nemeth, president and CEO of Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.
A total of 4 556 1,6-litre Ford Kugas, built between December 2012 and February 2014, are affected by the safety recall in South Africa. The recall is a two-phased process.
Once the current phase of the safety recall is completed, and with proper maintenance of the cooling system, the 1,6-Kuga is safe to drive.
The second phase of the recall will be another product improvement. Ford is making sure that the upcoming changes are thoroughly tested and will communicate with customers about phase two as soon as the process is ready.
