Irv Gordon shows off his Volvo with nearly 5 million kilometres on the clock!

HERE’s a story just to inspire you.

Meet Irvin “Irv” Gordon. In 1966, when Irv was 25 years old, he first bought a Volvo P1800S.

In less than two weeks after buying it, his car was returned to the same Volvo dealership for its first service at 1 500 miles or nearly 2 500km – talk about pushing your car to the limit!

Irv is the current world record holder for the highest car mileage in a noncommercial, original-owner car.

The retired science teacher has driven his 1966 Volvo P1800S for more than 4,8 million kms!

His Volvo, which still has the original engine, has never experienced any serious level of failure in spite of driving a distance that’s equal to 120 laps around the world!

When he bought his car, it came factory filled with Castrol motor oil and he used Castrol for every service over the past 50 years.

He first reached one million miles (1,6 million kms) with his car in 1987. He hit two million miles (3,2 million kms) in 2002. Irv reached three million miles (4,8 million kms) on 18 September 2013 on Alaska’s Seward Highway.

And he’s still going strong, setting a new record with each turn of his milometer. When he hits 5 million kms, there will no doubt be a huge celebration.

Irv has received Volvos as gifts when reaching key milestones in 1987, 2002 and 2014. He also owns a 1923 Model T Ford, a 1923 Packard and a 1949 Crossley.

Irv’s classics have clocked more than 1 million kms between them all with no sign of an engine failure in any of them.
