WHAT are on-board diagnostics?
YOU often hear about on-board diagnostics when you take your car in for a service or when mechanics need to diagnose a problem with a vehicle, but what do they do?
Why do we need them?
These days most cars have some sort of built-in computer which monitors all the vital components of a car. When something goes wrong it is easier to work out what the problem is.
How does the system work?
Diagnostic systems speak to the vehicle’s various systems with a computer. The computer collects data which reveal problems or the status of components. Thanks to the computer, mechanics or technicians can find the vehicle’s problems and fix them.
