HAROLD Tshabalala said keeping your car as close to a standard version as possible will keep it around for longer.
“If you modify your car, you eventually kill its performance on the road,” said Harold from Meadowlands in Soweto.
He drives a 2002 model 1,8 t Audi A4.
Q: When did you buy your car?
A: I bought it in 2007.
Q: Is it your first car?
A: No, it’s my fourth but the way I love this car, it is like it’s my first car.
Q: Why do you like it?
A: It is strong and reliable. I also love it because it is beautiful and very comfortable.
I gave my car a name: My Baby Got a Number. If you ask me why I gave my wheels that name, I really wouldn’t be able to tell you why, I just liked to call it that.
Its performance on the open road is amazing – it gets you where you’re going fast. Sometimes it also gets me into trouble – when I forget I am driving on a 120km/h zone and I get a ticket because I don’t realise I’m driving at 130km/h. That’s how comfortable this car is. Even if I buy another car in the future I won’t sell this one.
Q: What features do you like most?
A: All the features I have in my car – it’s perfect.
Q: Is there anything you would want to change?
A: No, as I said, I don’t want to improve my car because that will affect its performance.
Q: Why did you choose gold?
A: I had no choice, it came in this colour but it looks lovely. The other thing I like about the colour is that it does not show dirt quickly.
Q: Have you driven for any long distances yet?
A: Yes, to Qwa-Qwa in the Free State and Polokwane in Limpopo.
Q: How often do you get traffic fines?
A: Not often, but I do get them when they catch me speeding.
Q: Would you allow another person to drive it?
A: No, I am the only driver of my car. Too many hands on the wheel is a problem. It just creates bad issues you never knew existed and you will never want, so I don’t trust others.
Q: What do you think of other drivers on Mzansi’s roads?
A: I will tell you about me and not about other drivers. I always make sure that I am cautious on the road so as to not injure others.
