One of our favourite affordable hatchbacks just got better!
Renault has given the popular Sandero a fresh lease on life with a major facelift and changes to the range.
The updated Sandero line-up consists of three models, with the Sandero Expression first, next the Stepway Expression and the new Stepway Dynamique topping the range.
All three versions are powered by Renault’s F1-inspired, 0,9-litre turbopetrol engine that pushes the Sandero from zero to 100km/h in 11,1 seconds, and up to a top speed limited to 169km/h.
Renault claims the Sandero’s engine uses 5,2 litres of fuel every 100km for the entry-level Expression, and 5,4-litres for the Stepway models.
Design changes to the Sandero are quite significant: the most notable improvements being at the front, where the car adopts Renault’s new signature lighting in the characteristic “C-shape” LED daytime running lights.
There are new front and rear bumpers too, while the tail lights also appear more stylish than before.
The Stepway version means the Sandero gets crossover features and fittings that include an integrated roof spoiler, higher ground clearance, roof bars, front and rear skid plates, wheel-arch mouldings and front fog lights.
The range’s aggressive stance is matched by the inclusion of 15-inch wheels on the Sandero Expression and 16-inch dark metal flex wheels on the Stepway models.
Renault has also boosted the interior with a better quality fit and finish, while there is a redesigned centre console, new air vents and updated trim as well.
Another selling point for the Sandero is its generously measured interior with roomy seating for five occupants. What’s more is a generous boot size of 292 litres, which can be increased thanks to the split-rear bench, which is standard across the range, offering even more use.
All models are well equipped with all the must-have comfort features such as air conditioning and a Bluetooth connection. The Stepway Dynamique even gets a satellite navigation system.
The Stepway Dynamique model also has a centre armrest for extra comfort and leather seats as a R10 000 optional extra.
In terms of safety features, all models come with ABS brakes and front airbags while the Stepway Dynamique model also gets side airbags.
The Sandero range comes with Renault’s five-year/150 000km warranty together with a standard two-year/ 30 000km service plan.
