HE would rather die of hunger than drive a skorokoro!
This is what Chris Mokoena, from Gamasemola in Limpopo, who now lives in Centurion, told SunWheels when we noticed him driving in Pankop Village, Mpumalanga.
“I want wheels that gets attention wherever I go. That is why I upgrade every vehicle I own,” said Chris.
Q: What car is this?
A: It is a 2013 Chevrolet Corsa bakkie.
Q: How much did it cost to upgrade it?
A: It cost me over R10 000 to install the TV set, music system, ice bucket, DVD player and more.
Q: When did you buy it?
A: I bought it in June this year.
Q: Is it your first car?
A: No, I have owned five cars before this one. I upgraded all my cars before I traded in three of them. I have two cars besides this one.
Q: Why do you buy so many cars?
A: I love cars. I buy them and spot – or customise – them so they look smarter and more attractive. I feel good driving a car that I have rebuilt.
Q: How far have you driven it?
A: Yo! It has taken me to Limpopo a number of times. This car takes care of me. Sometimes I’ll just park it and watch TV or listen to music.
Q: Is it your dream car?
No, but I love this car with all my heart. My dream car is a Mercedes Benz C63. I will own one some day!
Q: Why so much love for this car?
A: Bakkies are good because I don’t struggle loading stuff in them. It also has a great sound system.
Q: Why did you choose white?
A: You cannot go wrong with white. White compliments every upgrade I do on my car.
It is beautiful and it looks good and clean when washed. And it makes it easy if I ever want to repaint it.
Q: May anyone else drive your car?
A: Only two other people can drive my car – my younger brother, Mashilo, and my true friend Faki “Zakes” Moepi. They are good drivers. I trust them with my car.
Q: Would you change anything?
A: Yes, I want to install a sunroof, make the interior maroon and give the engine more power.
Q: Do you get lots of traffic fines?
A: No, I have never had a ticket in this one. I am well behaved in my Corsa. I don’t speed, even if I’m late.
Q: What do you think of other drivers on Mzansi’s roads?
A: I respect other drivers on the road by not speeding or overtaking them.
All drivers should have only one objective: Arrive alive! Pushing other drivers off the road because you are in a hurry causes accidents. We all need to relax.
