CHEV CAPTIVA A SAFE CHOICE!

Its price tag and spacious cabin make the Chevrolet Captiva a good buy for those in the market for an SUV.

AS WE know, SUVs are hugely popular vehicles but most come with an expensive price tag.
Still, there are some decent value-for-money SUVs out there and one of them is Chevrolet’s evergreen Captiva.
What’s more, the entry-level Captiva is probably one of the best offerings for under R400 000 and it is really well-specced. It comes with loads of space and even has seating for seven people.

We tested the base LT model with manual gearbox – and we couldn’t help but like it!

Chevrolet launched the Captiva here in 2007 and it was recently upgraded to give it a more modern look. The overall size and design is still the same as before but the new grille, LED daytime running lights, smart 18-inch alloys and integrated running boards give the Captiva a new lease on life. At the rear, the tail lights are also new.

The spacious interior has a new trim, dashboard and instrument cluster. The Captiva also comes with many gadgets – the entry-level version even gets leather seats! What is especially noteworthy is Chevrolet’s state-of-the-art MyLink infotainment system. It’s a user-friendly setup that you can use to connect with your smartphone – and if you have an Apple or Android device, MyLink copies your phone’s front screen on its seven-inch screen. This means it feels immediately familiar and is easy to use.

There is also all the must-have safety features which include a number of airbags, ABS brakes, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, electronic stability control and traction control systems.
There’s a decent 2,4-litre four-cylinder petrol unit under the LT’s bonnet. It’s fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox and has an average fuel consumption of about nine litres every 100km.
The Captiva offers a smooth ride and cruises effortlessly on the open road. It isn’t the most agile vehicle in city traffic but is perfect for families. The Captiva is a solid offering and without doubt, will offer years of reliable motoring.
It deserves a thumbs up!
