Chery Automobile, one of the growing Chinese brands, made a big impact at the recent Auto China 2016 motor show in Shanghai.
The display stand in Shanghai promoted the theme Fun to Drive: Enjoy the Future with Chery.
The show stand saw 14 cars from 12 model ranges, with four technical displays showcasing the latest engines while the dramatic-looking FV2030 concept car was the proof of Chery’s future brand ideas and concepts.
The highlights of the Chery display were the new Tiggo compact SUV and the Arrizo compact sedan.
These are the first products that show the big shift Chery is taking.
The Tiggo 7 was developed from the Chery TX concept car which won an award for the best car design in the 7th Auto Design Conference in Croatia and was voted the best concept car at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
Both the Tiggo and Arrizo are powered by 1,5-litre turbocharged petrol engines with a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission.
Standard features of the new models include the advanced internet-based connected Cloudrive2.0 driving system.
There is also a P2 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system has a petrol engine and electric motor fitted to the eQ minicar.
It can travel 50km on electric power alone and can be driven up to 1 000km using a combination of petrol and electric power with a claimed fuel consumption of only 2,2 litres every 100km.
The new Tiggo and Arizzo models were rolled out in the Chinese domestic market this year and are under consideration and evaluation for possible introduction to South Africa in the future.
