BUSISIWE Sithole from Diepkloof needed something to help her deal with her mother’s death . . . and biking was just what she needed.
“There is a special feeling you get from biking that I cannot explain. You only have to feel it and you’ll know.”
Q: When did you start biking?
A: I started about four years ago. It was difficult at first but I got over my fears, and now I am a good biker.
Q: A lot of people, especially girls, are afraid of bikes. What do you want to say to them?
A: If you start biking with good training, you’ll get confidence. But if you cannot overcome your fears, stay away from bikes.
Q: What is your current bike?
A: I ride a Suzuki 750cc – I love it a lot.
Q: Why do you love it?
A: It looks good, it is super fast and very reliable. This bike is like my friend.
Q: Have you travelled far on your bike?
A: Yes, I have been to many places with fellow riders including Durban, Polokwane, Lesotho and Swaziland. We travel a lot.
Q: How often do you get fines?
A: Hardly. I got one when I was in Durban.
Q: Tell us about the colours of your bike?
A: It is a combination of black and maroon. I love it because while it makes my bike look good, it also matches my outfit.
Q: How important is an outfit when riding?
A: Very important. You have to have the right gear to make sure you are safe. I wear a helmet, my leather jacket and gloves. My jacket has a spine protector.
Q: What do you think about other road users in Mzansi?
A: I’d say motorists have to be aware that it is not just them, their cars and cellphones on the road, that there are bikers and pedestrians too. They have to be careful and think about us as well. Safety should be the first priority for all of us on the road.
Q: Do you belong to a club?
A: Yes, I am part of the Immortal Brotherhood/Sisterhood Club.
