THE FACTS
Matome Masenya from Boksburg, Ekurhuleni transferred R2 000 into an incorrect account.
When he realised the mistake he called the bank to reverse the transaction.
He was advised he would be charged R40 for the reversal,
but was later told they would need permission from the other person to reverse the transaction.
Matome was given
a cellphone number of a Capitec Bank account holder to call.
Not happy with the bank’s service, he asked the SunDefender for help.
WHAT I DID
I asked Capitec Bank to investigate.
SOLUTION
Lizette Manes of Capitec said feedback was sent to the client on 8 February. The bank could not locate the incorrect recipient to obtain approval to reverse the funds. The client will have to take matters further by contacting the client. He can also visit the nearest SAPS to ask them to subpoena the bank for information such as the status of the account or the home address. This will enable him to open a case at the small claims court.
