I DIDN'T OPEN THAT ACCOUNT

THE FACTS

PEARL Nkhwashu said someone opened an account in her name. She said she received an SMS informing her she had bought jewellery worth R9 500 at Sterns in Cape Town on 16 January. She has requested CCTV footage of the person who made the purchases but has not been given any assistance.

WHAT I DID

The Foschini Group was contacted to provide answers regarding Pearl’s case.

SOLUTION

Scorpion Legal Protection put pressure on the head office. They realised the account was opened fraudulently and decided to close it.

They said investigations in cases like these may take a long time to complete.

Pearl did the right thing by taking quick action when she got the SMS.

If a client can prove they did not open an account, the account is closed.

The client must be given a letter to confirm the account has been closed.
