THE FACTS
JAMES Ndaba and Alfrieda Modisane from Meadowlands, Soweto took out an insurance policy with Transafrica.
When their son died, they claimed for their benefits but when they were supposed to get paid out, they say they were told David was over age and they would not be paid.
This frustrated them because they were not told before the time that they were supposed to cover David as an extended family member. They contacted the SunDefender to help them.
WHAT I DID
I spoke to Elias Matselela, a manager at Transafrica, who promised to look into the matter.
SOLUTION
Elias spoke to senior management who made an offer to pay the policy as an extended member.
The family will get a payout of R10 000.
