THE FACTS
TUMELO Phaloane from Hammanskraal, Tshwane said he worked for Alutip in Waltloo from 2013 to 2014. He was injured twice during his employment. The company paid for his medical expenses but he did not receive anything from the compensation fund. Because of the accidents he constantly has pain in his legs. When he contacts the labour office he says they don’t help him.

SOLUTION
Injuries at work are regulated by the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act. This entitles the employee to three benefits. The injured man can claim medical expenses from compensation he paid for himself. If he is not being helped by the department of labour he should contact the compensation fund on 086 010 5353 to lodge a complaint.
