ALICE WORKED WITHOUT A PERMIT.

accreditation

THE FACTS

ALICE Mfaume of Honeydew, northern Joburg, said she was retrenched after the company was sold.

She said her old boss refused to sign her UIF forms, stating that she did not have a work permit.

Alice travelled to the Malawian consulate, which gave her a letter confirming her Malawian citizenship.

But this did help. The former boss still refused to sign the forms. She came to me asking for help.

WHAT I DID

I examined the documents and confirmed that indeed she does not have a work permit.

SOLUTION

I explained to Alice that non-South Africans working in the country can only benefit from UIF if they have an ID and are registered with the fund. Alice is not eligible to get money from the fund.
