EACH year has 12 months and in one of those months you celebrate your birthday.
This is the reason that the members of Divas Untouchables Society do not want new members.
Secretary Shibe Skosana said: “Our membership goes according to the 12 months of the year so every month one of our members celebrates a birthday.
“We want to keep it that way. Every time we meet, our host, the one who celebrates her birthday, provides a theme and dress code for the day.
“And for the special day, we buy a gift which is given to the host of the monthly meeting,” said Shibe
But that is not all they do. They each also contribute between R300 to R500.
Divas Untouchables, which started back in 2012, has 12 members who started the group with one aim – to boost one another financially. Back then their contribution was R150 each.
From their monthly contributions, a portion is deposited into a savings account while another portion is collected and used as a loan fund for the members at a 30% interest rate.
Thembi Ncube, another member, said: “Besides the regular monthly contributions, we also contribute a further R100 if a member has suffered a death in her family. Our meetings rotate so we know we’ll be enjoying at least one party a month,” she said.
