NO FAMILY can be happy when their loved ones don’t have enough to eat!
This problem kept these people awake at night until they came up with a solution. In 2007, they formed a social club to help feed their families.
The members of Kutlwanong Social Club come from Modderspruit, a place near Bapong in the North West.
They meet in the first week of every month and contribute R350 each which is saved for the end of the year.
Girly Moleufi, chairwoman and founder of Kutlwanong, told SunStokvel: “As a single parent I realised that I was struggling to put food on the table and Kutlwanong was my only option.”
She said the club now had more than 30 members which were split into A and B groups. Members of the B group save as much as they can every month.
Girly said that A team members pay R500 a month from January to June and then pay R350 a month until December.
The money is shared in December according to how much each member has saved.
The reason why the A team pays more for the first six months is to boost their grocery savings so that they are able to buy more groceries at the end of the year.
