DITLOU One Burial Society is the solution to these 18 members’ funeral issues.
Their society was started in 2002 by six relatives in Polokwane, although they now live in and around extension 12, Mamelodi East, Tshwane.
Society members said that after facing some financial challenges, they decided to unite and find a lasting solution to bury their loved ones with dignity.
Chairman William Tema (47) said: “It was difficult in the beginning as some members were not working, but what made our lives easier was that the contributions were affordable.”
They each contribute R150 every month.
He said before members join, they must read and sign the society’s constitution.
Some members joined Ditlou after leaving other societies, which they said were incompetent. They said joining Ditlou was like a homecoming and their lives are no longer the same.
“Members who have no discipline and break the procedures suffer the consequences,” William said.
New members are welcome to become part of the society and have to pay a R1 200 joining fee.
The members said they spend a lot of time discussing social issues as well as how to invest their cash and start small businesses.
William Masenamela (44), another member, said since joining the society his problems have eased. He doesn’t have to worry about finding cash to bury a loved one.
