It doesn’t matter how little you put aside consistently, it can always make a big impact in your life!
Florah Ntsele, vice chairwoman of Let Them Talk Social Club, said that despite saving as little as R50 regularly, their members have made their dreams come true.
“With the savings, some of us have paid for our children’s tertiary education.
“It demonstrates the power of women united in a cause. Men must accept women as equals. Gone are those days when a woman’s place was only in the kitchen!”
Let Them Talk was formed in 2001. In spite of their strong women’s identity, six of the 23 members are men.
Members of Let Them Talk gather every Saturday at different taverns around Soshanguve, Tshwane, to make their R50 minimum contribution.
At year end, dividends are shared according to each member’s savings.
The SunStokvel team caught up with them to hear their secrets why they are among the favourite social clubs in town.
Florah said it was because members were able to borrow cash from the club’s account and return it with interest. “We also pay a certain fee to the tavern owner for hosting us.”
For discipline, the club issues fines for misconduct, late coming, missing contributions and absenteeism.
Let Them Talk also hosts competitions for the loyal supporters who rally behind them.
“Supporters can win prizes ranging from best dresser, best dancer to best supporter.”
