THE MEMBERS of Kgomanane The Return Social Club in Hammanskraal, north of Tshwane, are empowering each other financially.

The club was formed four years ago by a group of friends.

They meet every Saturday and contribute R200 to the weekend’s host.

Chairwoman Queen Chauke (40) said the club has attracted 36 members.

“We used to see our parents at weekend stokvel meetings. As friends, we realised the benefits of a stokvel so we formed one for young people in the area.

“I no longer have to struggle being broke. I am able to afford most of my long-term goals through the social club. I will never leave because it has given me financial freedom,” she said.

Bobo Hlongwane (27), another member, said: “Most of the members work odd jobs a few days in a week. The club helps them afford their families’ needs.

“We are happy that we are making a change in member’s lives through our small contributions.

“The men wear branded T-shirts while the women wear a Tsonga skirt – called a shibelane – pantyhose and branded T-shirts. Those who fail to wear the uniform are fined,” he said.
