HONESTY and friendship go a long way and the Gold Dance Group club members say they are living proof of it.
It was in November 2015 when a couple of women took a decision to empower themselves by starting a stokvel.
Today, they say they are doing more than just reviving Sepedi music, they also earn money performing across Mzansi.
Based in Gasekororo, Limpopo, the women meet up only when they have an event.
“We are a talented team so we don’t need rehearsals every week. We know all our songs,” said Rachel Modiba, chairwoman of the group.
Rachel said that they only meet days before the event to go over their dance routines for a few times.
Young and old women are all members and they all respect each other.
They charge R400 for weddings, parties, unveilings and other events taking place around their area. For events in other provinces they charge a different fee. The money they make goes in to the club’s account.
Rachel said: “We teach youth what music their grandparents listened to.
“We are planning to take cooking classes soon so that we can also prepare and sell food at our events.
“We have found a qualified woman who is willing to teach us to cook in the area. The classes start early next year.”
