AFRICAN cuisine with a modern twist is what Chef Sizo Henna promises to share with TV viewers on his new show, Rustic Chakula.
He told SunFoodthat although he is classically trained in the art of English and French cuisine, it was time he embraced his African roots by sharing the wealth of dishes on the continent.
The show is a lifestyle cooking experience that discovers and celebrates the modern African yuppie.
“I will invite selected prominent people from Africa and we will chat about their current projects and their future plans while I cook a nice meal for them,” he said.
Sizo said the meals he’ll be sharing are easy, yet appetising.
“I know people expect me to love spending time in the kitchen but I do not.
“I am an entrepreneur, so this means I have to divide my time wisely.
“I love to make meals that are innovative yet do not cost me a lot of time.”
Sizo studied at Walthamstow Forest College in London and has worked in various countries.
His travels influence his vast knowledge of food and culture.
He said he learnt about different cultures and cuisine, from Swiss food in Geneva to spicy hot Indian dishes in Mumbai, and from chunky fish and chips and mushy peas in the streets of London to pan fried foie gras in France – and don’t forget creamy mngqusho back home in Bisho.
Rustic Chakula debuts on SABC3 from Tuesday at 8.30pm
