Queen Mathebula is the winner of the Shoprite-Checkers Championship Boerewors contest held in Langa, Cape Town.

Queen, who hails from Malamulele in Limpopo, grabbed the title right out of the hands of her fellow competitors with her smashing boerewors recipe.

And if you’re interested to know what it tastes like, it is already available at Shoprite and Checkers stores, nationwide.

Queen said this was her fourth attempt at the title.

“I don’t know what to say about winning, but it means a lot to me.”

Along with the title of South Africa’s number one boerewors champion, Mathebula also won a brand new Toyota Hilux 2,8 GD-6 raised-body double cab Raider bakkie.

“This win means so much to me and my family. It is a dream come true and it will change my life for the better.”

Mathebula was chosen as the 2017 Championship Boerewors winner in Cape Town following an exciting charity rugby match between a team of former national players and some current rugby world champions.

Ex-Springbok Bakkies Botha came out of retirement to lead the Braai Legends team in a friendly touch-rugby game against the Braai Champs with captain Stephan Dippenaar.

The charity match was for Vusa Rugby Academy, an upliftment project based in Langa, in Cape Town.

Shoprite has joined with Vusa as a food partner to make sure that the 80 children in the programme get a nutritious meal every day. Its partnership with Vusa is part of its hunger relief efforts – the core focus of the retailer’s corporate social investment initiatives.

The national supermarket chain also wants to start food gardens at the four beneficiary schools in Langa linked to the Vusa Academy.

On top of the social investment work, Shoprite also has its R5 food menu in which food items of R5 or less can be bought at any outlet to help the needy and hungry get some decent food in them.

The other two finalists were James Lebepe (34) from Atteridgeville, Gauteng, and Moses Mathebula (29) from Lenyenye, Limpopo. They got gift hampers from All Gold, Coca-Cola and Simba as well as vouchers for Shoprite-Checkers.
