MINCE INGREDIENTS
- 15ml canola or olive oil
- One large onion, chopped
- 800g lean beef mince
- 50ml wholewheat flour
- 30ml water
DUMPLING INGREDIENTS
- 500ml spinach, destalked, chopped, and cooked in the microwave for eight minutes
- 250ml wholewheat self-raising flour
- Pinch of salt and pepper, or mixed spice to taste
- 30ml canola oil or olive oil
- One egg, well beaten
- 150ml cream
MINCE PREPARATION
- Preheat oven to 180°C
- Fry the onion in the heated oil until translucent
- Add meat and stir-fry until brown
- Add remaining ingredients and cook for 10 minutes very slowly, stirring occasionally
- Place mince in a greased baking dish with lid
DUMPLING PREPARATION
- Mix dry ingredients first
- Add remaining ingredients and mix until it’s a soft but crumbly dumpling dough
- Put teaspoon-sized lumps of dumpling dough onto the mince in dish and cover with lid when finished
- Bake at 180°C for 30 minutes
Note: Mince can be prepared without dumplings for a lighter meal.
