MZANSI’s people love to cook food.
They go out of their way to create the best dishes, whether it is for ceremonies, stokvels or other events.
And to find out which dish is the best of the best, the 2017 Stokvel Cooking Challenge is back to give stokvels across the country a chance to win R40 000.
This competition has been running for four years with the aim of highlighting traditional South African dishes.
The winning stokvels of the regional semifinals will travel to Pretoria for the finals on 26 August, where they will prepare their very best dishes which will be tasted and tested by judges, actress and White Star chef, Mapaseka Koetle, and former Masterchef contestant Siphokazi Mdlankomo.
Mapaseka said that when it comes to the winning dish, she was hoping it would remind her of her mum’s home cooking.
If you and your stokvel are known for your amazing skills in the kitchen, get cooking and make sure you enter the challenge before 21 May by sending your stokvel photo, your stokvel name, region and why your stokvel deserves to take part to 071 470 4329. Three stokvel groups from each region will be invited to compete in one of the semifinal workshops at:
- East London, 6 May
- Nelspruit, 1 July
- Gauteng, 5 August
- KZN, 24 June.
