ARE you a student or employer in the chemical industry?

Well, there is good news for you.

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority, Chieta, has launched an initiative to match supply with demand for skills needed by chemical industry companies. It will do this through an online platform called The Chieta Supply-Side Database.

Pupils can register their details and qualification information for possible placement with companies in the chemical industry.

Pupils will have access to training and work experience, which will better position them for long-term employment since job seekers sorely lack experience.

The platform is also intended to benefit potential employers by providing a pool of students or qualified young people for recruitment.

The database is maintained by Chieta to keep the information submitted up to date.

An additional benefit to the chemical industry takes the form of grant funding to provide work-integrated learning and placement of those recruited from the database.

The launch of the platform is in line with Chieta’s objectives.

During a conference, Chieta acting CEO Ayesha Itzkin said they wanted to have an impact on workers in the industry and on young unemployed youths. She said Chieta was part of the Sector Education and Training Authority.

She said that Chieta conducted intensive research to identify the real skills needs of industry in order to be in a better position to address the requirements of its member companies, and she thanked member companies for their co-operation.

“Industry made it clear that it was important to meet high industry training standards to promote employment of trainees on learnerships or apprenticeships,” said Itzkin.

Itzkin also indicated that from its inception 15 years ago as part of the Sector Education and Training Authority, Chieta had supported more than 100 000 pupils with skills training, and that half the number was attained in NSDS 3, from 2011 up to last year, also recognising that the first five years were in essence the starting-up phase of Chieta as a newly established structure.
