ALL one can say after seeing this year’s glamorous Young Community Shapers Gala event is that Mzansi has talent.
When all the headlines speak of young people doing all the wrong things, it is a welcome relief to know that there are youth who are doing great things.
SunEducation was part of the judging panel at The Venue in Melrose Arch, Joburg, and we felt the pain of having to choose one person out of many who were worthy of the top prize.
But it was Katlego Thwane of Atlegang Bana Saturday School, who emerged as the winner of the R60 000 grand prize!
Tubatsi Motaung of Nigol Football Club won the second place prize of R30 000 for his charity work.
The other young shaper final runner ups, who all walked away with R10 000 each, were:
- Lindokuhle Kubeka of Lindokuhle Foundation.
- Trinity Mkhatshwa of Thabang Stimulation for Disabled.
- Isack Hlapo of Solution for All.
- Sharon Kwangwane of Ekasi Development.
- Hlakudi Gert Malatji of Malusi Youth Development.
- Bonga Ngqobane of Bonga.Org Cycling Academy.
- Linda Mbali of Intelligent Young Woman.
Inspired by the quality of projects, other young shaper sponsors came forward with extra prizes for all runners up including R30 000 for the winner from Sir Stuart Ntlathi, inventor and entrepreneur.
Different speakers praised the ICC Cash and Carry group, sponsors of the event, for bringing out these inspiring people and their stories as a needed positive example to all of us.
